MARIELA GARIBAY

PERCORSO ARTISTICO

DSC00462 2.jpg

Mariela Garibay is a Peruvian sculptor whose work is distinguished by soft, generous volumes and a poetic sensibility that evokes tenderness, memory and the quiet moments of life. Born in Lima, she earned a degree in Sculpture from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), and later completed a Master’s in Urban Design: Art, City & Society at the University of Barcelona.

She has been awarded the Winternitz Prize twice (1997, 1999) and first prize in the national drawing contest in 2005.

Her sculptures reflect her belief: “Sculpture is not only form, but the language the artist has chosen to communicate.” She works in bronze, marble and alabaster, creating figures with child-like curves, figurative but not realistic, immortalising fleeting moments of peace, surprise or joy.

Garibay has exhibited extensively in Peru and Europe (Paris, Geneva, Venice, Barcelona). She lives and works in Barcelona.
