ESPINASSE31 Project Mission
Promote Street Art and Contemporary Art, as well as related cultural practices, by exposing and hosting some of the most influential and prolific artists from all over the world.
Offer the artists a platform to showcase their artwork and create artistic and social opportunities that could continue after the period of their exhibition or residence.
Create a community based around Espinasse31 through intercultural dialogue, encouraging collaboration and interdisciplinary exchange of ideas among the local community and the artists exposed or in residency.
Explore, produce and stimulate aesthetic and critical thinking; social intervention in art; and inspiration for the local community, for the artists and visitors to be aware of different forms of art, endorsing them as fundamental elements of a cultural self-consciousness.
Espinasse31 Milano Artist Residency aims to bring to Milan pop and street artists from all over the world.
Street artists are widely considered to be the 21st century’s “globe trotters”, leaving their trademark as they travel worldwide.
The artists are hosted in the inspiring spaces of a former print factory for 3/4 week-long periods, during which they can work either alone or collaborating with other artists.
Espinasse31 encourages the exchange of ideas, techniques and artistic languages, in order to bring to life groundbreaking and previously unseen works. Espinasse31’s street artists are strictly selected by their ability to transpose their murals into fascinating indoor works, and by their curriculum. Each residency project ends with an event and group exhibition.
ESPINASSE31 Contemporary Muralism
Over the past few decades, Street and Urban Art have become very popular thanks to figures such as Keith Haring, Banksy or Shepard Fairey.
After a first phase, during which it was impregnated with political references and widely seen as a social provocation, urban art has experienced a massive evolution. Many exponents of this form of art have softened their aggressive approach, in order to encourage the masses to get involved in their work, rather than provoking them with it.
The Street Art market is distinguished from the traditional art market or so called “establishment” by its varied target audience and collector profile.
This is mainly possible through the circulation of multiples, editions and works at more affordable prices. With that said, originals and limited editions have seen a steady rise in prices in the last decade, making street art one of the most interesting art forms to invest in.
