Claudia La Bianca (b. Bagheria, Sicily) is an Italian painter, muralist, filmmaker, and designer. She grew up as a mischievous teen in her Sicilian hometown, where she studied fashion design at the Institute of Arts and was granted her first murals, propelling her intense passion for painting. Upon graduating from art school, La Bianca first moved to Miami, where the city’s cultural melting pot and artistic awakening allowed her work to flourish. In 2004, she moved to NYC, where she studied at the New York Film Academy, expanding her visual arts dialogue and her talent for storytelling through multiple media. As a filmmaker, she was a finalist at the “On the Lot” competition show for filmmakers, which was produced by Steven Spielberg and Mark Burnett. La Bianca has gone on to direct and produce a vast number of commercials, music videos, and short films, including her independent feature film “The Journey of a Dragonfly” (2014). In 2006, La Bianca moved back to Miami, where she consolidated her place in the city’s art scene. She is now most well-known for her murals in the Wynwood Arts District, some rising 30 ft tall.

The themes most recurrent throughout her work are those of female empowerment, self-love, and individuality. The subjects of La Bianca’s works are often confident, voluptuous, and defying women; her portrayal of the female figure defies gender roles in all their aspects, and her murals serve as a reminder of the power that women hold.

Having traveled the world to paint her truth, Claudia La Bianca has received several awards and recognitions. In 2017, she was featured in “Miami’s Most interesting people” by the Miami New Times; in 2018, she was featured on The New York Times as one of most prominent street artists of Miami. In August 2019, she was one of the artists selected to showcase work at Burning Man, with her first interactive art installation “The Star of Metamorphosis”. Most recently, La Bianca painted a 104-feet-tall mural at the Jackson Memorial Hospital in honor of health workers during the global pandemic; the story, which gathered massive media attention, was featured on outlets such as the CBS Morning Show and CNN International, among others.
